I was talking with a friend on a jobsite recently and we ended up discussing how much early numbers can impact a whole project. A lot of people skip proper preliminary estimates and jump straight into detailed takeoffs, but honestly those early figures can save a lot of time if they’re done right.
Sometimes a project looks good on paper, but once you run the initial estimate you realize it’s not even within the client’s budget. That early heads-up really helps avoid wasted effort later.
Just wondering how others handle it…
Do you rely on early estimating or go straight to full detailed breakdowns?
