The Strategy of Resting

Has anyone ever felt like their bodies have their own tempo? I mean to me squats dictate a slower tempo, but overhead press has its swift movements. How do you guys navigate the puzzle of resting or taking pauses between different exercises? Or it is just more focused on how the body reacts?

I'm gonna be more conscious about this now, also how do you handle rest? Is it based on intuition, or do you follow a structured plan or something?
