Is the 50% vegetables, 25% protein, and 25% carbs plate the best way to portion meals?

For most of my life, I've eaten mostly carbs and protein, with veggies on the side. Could this have impacted my growth? Should I switch to the 50/25/25 portion sizes?

It's a good guideline to follow, but it's not the whole story. It's important to consider variety and include healthy fats too.
