If taste isn't a concern, what are the best foods or supplements for looking, feeling, and performing your best?

Beets are incredibly beneficial. They're rich in antioxidants like betalains, which help combat cell damage and inflammation. This can potentially reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Beets are also high in fiber, folate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C, making them a nutritious choice.

Beetroot's nitrate is beneficial for hypertension. Drinking one glass of beetroot juice can lower blood pressure as effectively as blood pressure medication.

I enjoy beets but I eat them in moderation because they contain a relatively high amount of oxalates, which isn't good for me since I've had kidney stones. Beetroot juice has fewer oxalates than canned beets.

Watercress is underrated. Purple sweet potatoes, in particular, are also at the top of the list. Boil them because of the oxalates they contain.

The fish many people don't like—sardines, anchovies, and mackerel—are actually the most nutrient-dense and sustainable. I enjoy finding ways to include them in my diet.

My Italian father always said, "Niente Troppo," which means "Nothing too Much." We grew up with the Mediterranean diet, and I still follow it. At 71, I can honestly say I have no aches, no pains, and I don't take any medication.

Foods like bone marrow, offal, dark leafy greens (hello kale!), fermented veggies, full-fat yogurt, berries, avocados, and eggs are packed with nutrients. Eggs are particularly nutritious, containing everything needed to grow a chicken.

As for supplements, D3/K2 and magnesium are crucial. Many of us are deficient in vitamin D, and magnesium is beneficial for overall health.

Include cruciferous vegetables, berries, mushrooms, onions, seeds, and beans in your diet, along with your favorite protein. Start each meal with a small portion of fermented food. For older individuals, it's important to regularly take some B12.

While there are no absolutes, I've found that high-quality eggs, grass-fed ground beef, avocados, wild blueberries, and green tea are my favorite staples. I feel good about eating them often because they are nutritionally potent.

The healthiest diet consists of a wide variety of whole foods. Some foods stand out for their impressive nutrient levels and benefits. At the top of the list are potatoes (both sweet and regular), beans (especially soybeans), sardines, kiwis (with the skin), pumpkin seeds, wild blueberries, and broccoli.

Much has been covered here, but I'd like to add meats to this list. If you eat meats and dark leafy greens, you're basically 95% "there" when it comes to nutrients.
